Amateur Tournament

So I’ve been playing golf for years now, and it’s safe to say that my game has much improved. It’s still nowhere near perfect by any means, but I’d say I’m not half bad. I’ve even played in a couple tournaments.

So in the spirit of the 2010 Golf Channel AM Tour coming to Gulf Shores this weekend, I’m officially making it my goal to play in this tournament one day. Because the beauty of this tournament is it’s for amateurs—like me—of varying abilities. I’m thinking that participating in this kind of golf tournament could do wonders for my ego.

I missed out on this year’s registration, but I’ll definitely be there to watch. It’s free to the public, so I’ve got nothing to lose and inspiration to gain.

One Course a Day

Generally, my vacations last a week (or less, if absolutely necessary). Saturday-to-Saturday vacations just always seem to work best due to work schedules and vacation time.

I’m changing that this year. I have a lot of vacation time saved up and a new plan: to vacation in Gulf Shores for nine days and play a different golf course each day.

That’s the beauty of Brett/Robinson’s golf vacation packages—they’re customized to the individual’s wants. For the past couple of years, I’ve wanted to play the same golf courses over and over (for good reason—they’re excellent courses). But I’m in a rut and I need a getaway golf challenge. And since there are nine golf courses offered as part of Brett/Robinson’s golf packages, I’ll need nine days to play them all. It’s time to break out of my rut.

Night Life

There’s no question that when you visit Alabama’s Gulf Coast, you’ll find excellent golf spots. Set up a golf vacation package and you’ll have access to luxurious beachfront accommodations and a selection of scenic Gulf golf courses.

This takes care of your days—but what about nights? There are a couple options for evening entertainment. You could hangout in your condo, relaxing on the balcony and listening to the waves, or maybe squeezing in a workout in the exercise room. Nothing wrong with any of these options.

The other option is check out the local night life. Sports bars, live entertainment, pool tables, karaoke…lots of activity to carry you through the evening hours.

It's Hot!

Things are really heating up these days, which can make playing golf a little more challenging than usual. Although, if you’re like me, there isn’t much that will keep you from playing golf, and weather is no exception. Whether it’s a hundred degrees or a hundred below, I’ll tough it out! (Well, maybe not at a hundred below.)

But of course, the heat is an important consideration when you’re out on the course. Anything you can do to keep cool will help: drink lots of water, wear a cold, damp towel around your neck (remember Cotton Creek has mango-scented ice cold towels). I’ve even been known to wear ice packs under my hat—it helps, just remove it before you tee off.

Then when you’re done, head back to your Brett/Robinson vacation spot and jump in the pool, or take a trip or two around the lazy river. You’ll be refreshed in no time.

Specials All Summer Long

It looks like golf is going to be good along Alabama’s Gulf Coast this summer. All nine of the Gulf Shores Golf Association golf courses are offering specials throughout the summer. Every weekday from now through August, a different deal will be offered at a one of the nine courses.

Some of the offers include free range balls, reduced rates, golf clinics, free golf for kids, and a free greens fee with the purchase of another greens fee—my personal favorite. You can see all the different deals at Brett/Robinson’s Facebook page.

And, of course, visitors can still take advantage of Brett/Robinson’s golf vacation packages—a great way to plan ahead and lump together greens fees, cart fees, and condo costs into one expense.

A Personal Challenge

The most golf I’ve ever played in one day is 18 holes, even though some of my favorite Alabama Gulf Coast golf courses offer 27 holes. I have to admit, 18 holes wipes me out—in a good way. I always feel refreshingly exhausted after a full round of 18 holes.

So I have a new personal challenge for myself: to play 27 holes in one day. I’m sure I could physically make it through 27 holes. The question is how much my game would suffer. We shall see.

You can check out Brett/Robinson’s website Orange Beach Today to see a list of golf courses (and which ones have 27 holes). If you’re interested in setting up a golf vacation package, click here for more information, or call 1-800-497-6238.
